Do you have a problem when you have the vocabulary, when you can understand people but when it comes to talking, you have all of those questions in your head: is he going to hate me for my accent, is she going to notice that I used incorrect tense, is that native speaker going to laugh at my words at my vocabulary? I’ve had this problem.

People don’t care…

Now, the very first thing that I want to tell you: people don’t care about your accent. People don’t care about the words you are using. People just care about the information that they are getting from you. Yes, if you are too annoying, if you just want information from somebody, if you’re just telling long and boring stories, yes, people may be annoyed by your accent like this is.

Because sometimes when somebody is talking, talking, talking, oh, come on… Be precise, be concise, and be polite to other people’s time. This is the number one rule to follow. Not like a grammatical rule, not like vocabulary. Just be a nice person to talk to, and then if you are a nice person, no one’s gonna care about the mistakes you’re making.

Relax your thoughts…

Have you ever had this when you’re sleeping and you’re dreaming in English or any other language and it’s just flowing over your head, and you suddenly remember all of the complicated words you’ve never used before and you’ve maybe seen a couple of times, and you’re able to make those complex structures? And know why? Because your brain is relaxed. [How to Speak English Fluently at Home]

It’s a relaxer of all your fears, it’s a relaxer of all the thoughts like: “Oh, my God, what is he/she gonna think about me?” Once you relax, it just flows out. You have everything in your head already.

Don’t underestimate the power of practice

And there is a thing that you can do is practice, practice, and practice every day. So basically, I know you’re scared, I know you’re like what are my friends gonna tell me, what are my parents gonna tell me? And I know it’s hard to start.

Record your video or you can start your own YouTube channel. What’s amazing about YouTube? If you’re talking about interesting topics, if you are talking about a story, something that happened to you, or how are you overcoming a difficulty, it can pick up your video and just start promoting it organically. If you’re not talking about interesting things, you’re just gonna practice, and nobody is gonna see your video, I promise.

One of my friends started a YouTube channel and started publishing his videos on it. When he published his first video, he didn’t tell anyone. He never posted on my social media. He only had like two hundred subscribers on Instagram, but he cared so much about their opinions.

Later, my friend shared his experience that he was afraid to share his first video because he thought people would laugh at me. They would laugh at him, you know, language and stuff. Then, you know, he just stopped caring.

Time to Start YouTube Channel

So, what I want you to do this week, okay? Don’t hesitate. Take your phone and just create a video of why you’re learning English. “Hi, everyone. My name is John. I’m learning English just like millions of people all over the world. At the age of fourteen, I wanted to go to the UK. I realized blah, blah, blah…” You tell us a story, okay? You don’t talk about how you want to get a better job or something.

This only comes with practice, and this is something that you can learn just by yourself, just by looking at yourself and comparing yourself to other vloggers.

This is a huge recommendation for me. Start a YouTube channel. Don’t talk about it if you are shy. Just start, posting videos regularly, and look at yourself.

Please, shoot a video, listen to yourself, and upload this video. And I’m insistent on uploading this video because your friends wouldn’t see it again. They won’t be able to google if you choose a different name. You know just making this real understanding that other people can watch would make you put more effort into it. And the content would be of better quality. You would feel like you actually talking to people knowing that you talking to a camera because you would know that people are gonna watch later.
